What is Pumping Iron – And How Old Was Arnold in Pumping Iron?
Pumping Iron is a short documentary at 85 minutes long.
The documentary shows us the hard life of bodybuilding. From my favorite old-era bodybuilder Arnold trying to break a record, to Franco Columbu lifting a car, nothing is missed in this film.
This movie shows the hardest part of the sport. From constantly eating to constantly lifting at Gold’s Gym, being a bodybuilder is not easy.
The Filming of Pumping Iron
This movie is part documentary and part scripted.
This means that lots of the film is explaining the process of bodybuilding from a narrative, and some of it is “fake” recordings.
Some of these scenes were made more “dramatic” to be more appealing to the viewer, according to MentalFloss. While some scenes in the movie are from actual competitions, most are acted to a script. This means Arnold wasn’t at his age of 18 for some scenes, but for a large majority of the movie, he was way older.
