What’s in The Box? – VIOFO A119 V2 Review
After purchasing the product for $96.50 on Amazon.com I opened it hurriedly! Soon after, I had to make the Viofo A119 V2 review.
It comes in a smaller than expected box. Luckily for us, this company actually put items that are incredibly useful in the box.
For starters, the dashcam is included (thankfully). But they actually included quite a few (5) windshield sticker mounts. These sticker mounts can be incredibly handy if your dash cam won’t stick to your windshield anymore.
When I purchased this, I was actually worried that eventually over time (8-12 months) the tape holding onto the windshield would fall off. This happened to me with an old dashcam in my Dodge Durango.
I was worried I would have to buy a whole new mount for the dashcam! Then I would just waste my money that way. Thankfully, with five different adhesive mounts that is a worry gone away! Especially after the cold winter here made the adhesive useless in record times…
It also includes a car adapter, 2 USB adapters, and a mounting tool set if you have a windshield mount already.
I should mention that the dashcam does not come with an SD card, so you will have to purchase one separately.
I purchased a cheap Sandisk SD card for $16.99 with 64GB of space on it, which was a pretty good deal. For $96.50 I was already impressed at what I had received, but how does the actual dashcam work in the car?
Setting It Up – VIOFO A119 V2 Review
For this VIOFO A119 V2 Review post, I can gladly tell you setting this dashcam up was beyond easy!
I took the camera out of the package, brought it into the car and easily peeled off the “3M” logo on top and stuck it to the windshield.
It stuck to the windshield without having any issues like falling or sag.
I was fully expecting the adhesive to actually not be that effective, but the dashcam has held up incredibly well! Even through the extreme winter conditions my car has been exposed to.
Infact, it was literally -30 Fahrenheit for 4 days straight. Not to mention the bumpy and slick roads I have been driving on. (…by the way try not to have rear wheel drive in a land of snow storms every week, it’s just not that fun).
The dashcam has a very long cable. This is both a positive and a negative in this unbiased VIOFO A119 V2 Review.
You can conceal the cable if you want to make your car look really nice. Or if you need to wire the dashcam far, it works well.
Personally, I just plug it to the power’s main power port on the radio. The cable is small enough that it doesn’t obstruct my view or make my car look bad.
Once plugged in, you just have to format the SD card and the dashcam is ready to go!
Important Features – VIOFO A119 V2 Review
The A119 V2 has very important features that are incredibly useful! This dashcam comes LOADED with features that set it apart from the traditional dashcam you can buy. Let me explain some of them to you!
Easy to Reach “DON’T OVERRIDE” Button
Arguably the most useful feature of this dashcam is the easy “DO NOT OVERRIDE” button. In the event that you get into a car accident or need to record incredibly important footage, you want to keep it!
In the event you witness an accident or other that the video does not get deleted or removed from the SD card.
The A119 has a BIG yellow triangle button with an exclamation point in the middle. It is directly in the center of the dashcam, so you can easily find it even if you can’t see it. This button will immediately mark last few minutes to NOT delete.
Infact, it stores the video in a seperate folder. This means you can easily find it later too!
This is my FAVORITE thing to write about in the VIOFO A119 V2 review. Even when things get hot on the road and I’m swerving I always know where that button is and can get to it easily.
Additionally, the camera has a built in “G-Sensor” that detects when the vehicle is hit and marks the video to not be overridden.
This is incredibly important because it can be easy to forget to hit the button. Also, it may not not be possible to save it due to the dashcam being knocked out of the car! Or if you were knocked out of the car!!
Supercapacitor:
Instead of the A119 V2 having a battery, it has a supercapacitor.
It uses the supercapacitor to store and draw power from. This is incredibly useful for those of us in extreme climates like the harsh winter or hot summer.
This is one of the most underrated features of the VIOFO A119 V2 Review in my opinion. It essentially avoids a battery exploding, but I never appreciated it as much as I should.
While this dashcam cannot be charged, this provides a more reliable power source when it is plugged into the 5V because the supercapacitor will not be damaged.
Think of how the extreme winter can cause your car battery to not function right! Sometimes you’re not be able to even start your car!
This supercapacitor removes that risk, which is very important!
Considering if you’re in a place where the battery would normally be damaged that is likely when you’ll be needing the dashcam the most. (colder weather means likely icy roads)
Microphone:
While some may be concerned about privacy, I think it is incredibly important for there to be a microphone in the dashcam.
If you don’t want your voice recordings on the video, there is a button on the dashcam to turn it off.
However, I think the microphone can be good! Not only to see your reactions, but where your dashcam sound is needed. Think of a traffic stop or car accident, what you say may win you the case!
Also, it can record sounds, helping you if someone hits your car and the car is not visible in the camera. (ie: someone rear ends you or side scrapes you)
This will be incredibly powerful to you when you need to present it to your insurance company.
GPS and Speed Detector:
The A119 V2 includes a built in GPS sensor!
At first glance it may not seem that appealing. However, think if you’re driving in a place you’ve never been before! Perhaps a long road trip?
Having your exact GPS coordinate location may come in helpful later if you ever need the footage.
Trust me, it’s actually came in handy a few times! Even if it’s for my memories of me and my buddies heading to Taylors Falls, MN on a long road trip, it was good to know where we were! I know in my VIOFO A119 V2 Review I am very dark, but sometimes it can be used for just happiness!
Additionally, it has a speed detector which will say how fast your car is going.
This can be helpful if you are ticketed for speeding when you really weren’t. This can save you hundreds even thousands in the long run!
Video Quality
The video quality on the A119 V2 is incredible! Giving 1440p and 30 fps or 1080p at 60fps at a powerful price point.
I actually did have the chance to use my dashcam and save some footage, and the video quality was stunning.
I was not actually expecting it to be so good and clear, especially not for ~$95. If the video quality was like 360p, VIOFO could not have paid me anything to write this VIOFO A119 V2 Review. (I wasn’t paid anything for this either!)
The video quality doesn’t stutter or flicker, it is very consistent and clear.
It allows me to see the footage even when the sun is up or down.
It is also very easy to transfer the content to a computer to upload the footage.
You just take the SD card out of the easily accessible slot and drag the MP4 files onto your PC.
Once you are done, return the SD card to the dashcam! Then everything will run normal again.
Conclusion – VIOFO A119 V2 Review
The A119 V2 is an incredible dash cam at its price point. It allows those who don’t want to invest hundreds into a camera for their car, meet an affordable compromise.
Trust me, I am a poor student too. If it was expensive this VIOFO A119 V2 Review would’ve never been written!
While it may not have tons of advanced features other big dashcams have, such as built in wifi or parking sensors. This dashcam may just save you hundreds or thousands of dollars insurance claims down the road. All at a small investment, so why not buy this powerful dashcam?
